2006 Visiting Seminarian "Luke" Lukasz Willenberg

St. Luke’s Parish is very fortunate to have “Luke” Lukasz Willenberg, a seminarian from Poland in residence for the summer of 2006.   Luke was born in Ilowo Poland , a small town in an agricultural and tourist region of northern Poland with a population of about 9,000 people.  Luke said that visitors come to Ilowo to enjoy the many lakes in the area.  At age 15, Luke left Ilowo to attend boarding school in Plock , one of the oldest cities in Poland. Plock has been the capital of the province of Mazovia since the middle ages, and has a current population approaching 130,000.  Luke came to the US in July of 2004 and is studying Theology at SS. Cyril & Methodius Seminary in Orchard Lake Michigan after completing an intensive year studying the English language.

Luke has one older sister who recently completed her studies and is currently a dentist.  He also has a younger sister and a younger brother who are both still in school.  Luke keeps in touch with his family by email and telephone.  Luke plays both acoustic and electric guitar and played in a band in Poland that recorded two CDs of Catholic worship music.

A friend from the seminary encouraged Luke to join our Diocese, and in January of 2006, after several visits to Rhode Island , at the invitation of Bishop Tobin, Luke made a commitment to the Diocese of Providence.

Luke’s initial impression of St. Luke’s Parish is that it is a very busy place with many meetings and activities taking place each day.  He enjoys interacting with Fr. Bob and Fr. Matt, and feels fortunate for this opportunity to observe the life of the parish including the roles of both a Pastor and Associate Pastor.  Luke is encouraged to see good attendance at daily Mass.   Luke will be with us through the middle of August, and will be involved in a training program to become a Chaplain at Rhode Island Hospital during his stay.

Please make Luke welcome during his time with us!
