My name is Rev. TJ Varghese, a resident of North Providence, Rhode Island, was born in India and adopted by an American family. I was the pastor of St. Eugene Parish in Chepachet before coming to St. Luke's. I graduated from Papal Seminary in Pune, India, where I was ordained in 1995. I served as Chaplain at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, Director of Pastoral Care at St. Joseph Health Services of RI, was associate pastor at St. Philip Parish in Greenville and associate pastor of St. Joan of Arc in Cumberland. I am a Chaplain for the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, the RI State Police Chaplain as well as the Chaplain for the West Glocester, Chepachet, Harmony Fire Districts and the Town of Glocester Police Department. In 2011 I was the recipient of the Outstanding Chaplain of the Year Award. In 2017, I was the Chepachet Grange Citizen of the Year and the Grand Marshall for the July 4th parade. I served as a Dean for the Diocese of Providence and held this office for eight years.

I am a board member of the Priest On-going Formation Advisory Board for priest’s education, and I serve on the Pastor Advisory Committee for the Catholic Charity Fund Appeal and the Diocesan Insurance Policy Committee. In 2017, I was appointed administrator for two local parishes, where I managed and supervised the duties and responsibilities of both churches.

Each year I facilitate the Special Olympics Torch run and am an advocate for the Muscular Dystrophy Walkathon. Most Friday evenings you can find me helping the homeless in downtown Providence.
