Understanding Eucharistic Adoration

Question 7:

Does My Attendance at Eucharistic Adoration Influence Others?

  • Pilgrims on Earth ccc 954 - People alive today are pilgrims on a journey to our real home in Heaven. Our intercessory prayers for each other have significant influence over the success of that journey. The Holy Bible encourages us to “pray for one another … the fervent prayer of a righteous person is very powerful.” James 5:16 Each Monday during Eucharistic Adoration, adorers pray for the intentions listed by others, either for themselves or for others, in our St. Luke’s Parish Intercessory Prayer Book, which is placed next to the altar in the sanctuary.
  • Others [who] have died and are being purified ccc 954 - The Souls in Purgatory need our prayers to be purified, and ultimately, to gain entry into Heaven. Our personal prayers for those souls, some listed in our prayer book, are a powerful spiritual tool in helping them along in their quest for Heaven. Also, as mentioned in Question 6 in this series, our attendance at Eucharistic Adoration may result in a plenary indulgence, which you can then dedicate to a soul being purified in Purgatory.
  • Others in Glory ccc 954 - The Saints in Heaven, who are “… contemplating ‘in full light, God himself …’” are most closely united with Christ. “They do not cease to intercede with the Father for us … so by their fraternal concern is our weakness greatly helped.” ccc 956

  • “We believe in the communion of all the faithful of Christ, those who are pilgrims on earth, the dead who are being purified, and the blessed in heaven, all together forming one Church; and we believe that in this communion, the merciful love of God and his saints is always [attentive] to our prayers.” ccc 962
